This hotel is absolutely ...

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It's so original and elegant. It's like walking into the past to a better time. However, the staff, not including Roger, could be friendlier and more capable. Our check-in was confusing as we were given different rates and weren't sure of charges until we checked out the following morning. I was grateful to have met the maintenance man, Roger, who had interesting stories and knowledge of the hotel and area. It's wonderful to meet someone who's willing to slow down and have a conversation without being distracted by their cell phone. Our room was spacious and well decorated. However, it was quite warm. We called the desk but we were told all the rooms had outdated AC units. It was a hot day, and we needed to get our dog out of the heat, but it took a few hours to cool down The other disappointment was that no one would give us a paper plate or utensil because the restaurant was closing. I've worked in the restaurant business for years and can't imagine not giving a paper plate because we were getting ready to leave. It's so easy to hand someone a plate. And a great way to earn a tip. I guess I'm from a different time. When we were finally able to eat, our food was cold, and we then noticed there wasn't a microwave. I expected there to be water and coffee in the lobby as is in nice hotels, but no. Nothing. You have to pay high prices at the hotel restaurant if you don't want to travel out to get breakfast. No microwave. So, hopefully, you don't need to heat up your leftovers from the overpriced restaurant. On a more positive note, the beds are comfy, and Roger is wonderful. The pool is nice, and the hot tub is powerful. Most importantly, check yourself for ticks if you walk around outside the hotel. I saw one on my son's arm shortly after he came back from the vehicle. It had just begun to burrow, so luckily, we saw it early. The next

Good place to use ...

Good place to use as base of operations for visiting the local area. Full service hotel, but rooms are a little dated- not a single USB port available, and the TV is last generation. No apps available, no option for Netflix, YouTube, or Amazon Prime. They really need to update to stay competitive.

When I walked into ...

When I walked into the lobby, I was immediately welcomed and helped by someone not working the reception desk as the primary person was otherwise engaged. That was huge. The lobby is very well done with a cannon as a fitting touch for a Gettysburg hotel. With all that I was looking forward to my first stay at Wyndham Gettysburg. Unfortunately, the room was a let down. There is no refrigerator and the TV is undersized. Also, there was what I suspect was a blue tortilla chip, stale, on the chair next to the bed. Leave it to say I was underwhelmed.
